Freedom Arts’ 1st Show Celebrates Voices of Struggle
Written by Natalie Davis on August 2, 2015
While many on Saturday, Aug. 1 went crawling for art, another show, the first for Freedom Arts – Arte de Libertad, offered an opportunity for under-sung artists to display their works and amplify the voices of the largely unheard. The site was the Martha O’Bryan Center, a Christian organization near Cayce Place devoted to supporting better education and employment opportunities for Nashville’s most vulnerable families. The theme of the show was struggle, specifically that of people considered minorities by the mainstream. Check out this sampling of the installation, which was all at once powerful, moving, heartbreaking, and inspiring.
