GDPR Spotify Update 22816

Meghan Trainor as Best New Artist? REALLY?

The latest GDPR Playlist of the Moment could not be contained in 10 songs — this time there are 11. Some thoughts:

It starts with Bowie, because… Bowie. This one is a live version of “TVC15” from his 1976 performance at New York’s Nassau Coliseum. The playlist runs on through the rocking Lucinda Williams song “Seeing Black” from her 2011 LP Blessed. In between, we get the late, great performance artist Klaus Nomi, the B-52s (RIP Paul Gordon), Natalie Prass, evergreen R&B from singers Lisa Stansfield and Jill Scott, the late Dan Hicks with his Hot Licks and their rendition of “I Scare Myself,” my favorite Joe Walsh track, the title cut from JD Souther’s recent Omnivore Recordings reissue of his 1976 opus Black Rose, and a piece from Courtney Barnett (who was robbed on Grammy night).

Enjoy.
