The following are links to progressive-issue action alerts recently received. Get busy: Take action for a better world. And remember the words of Alice Walker: “Activism is the rent [we] pay for living on this planet.” Today, we have news of two #FightFor15 rallies being held in Music City this week. In addition, we’re asking you to sign a […]

We at GDPR Nashville are gobsmacked by the reaction we received to our broadcasts of Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ Nov. 19 address to students at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The emails that came in response have raised our spirits by leaps and bounds. And the numbers of listeners to Bernie’s master class in democracy was […]

Last July, Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. “It is a national disgrace that millions of full-time workers are living in poverty and millions more are forced to work two or three jobs just to pay their bills,” Sanders said before an audience of 1,000 striking workers […]

Gosh, the end of summer weather has been glorious in Nashville so far. Has anyone heard of spring fever coming in Autumn? How do we muster the seriousness to atone adequately and appropriately? (Yom Kippur starts tonight, y’all.) I am not really sure, but suggest taking a deep breath and venturing forth into the events […]

The next few days should be exciting ones for local liberals and Music City’s peace-and-love set. We have the continued visit of the Nuns on the Bus, the usual prog meetups and activist meetings, bilingual family fun courtesy of Workers’ Dignity, and a big weekend dose of African art and culture. (And don’t forget: Peace […]

Let’s take a look at what’s up in Blue Nashville this Thursday and Friday. The weather has been dandy this week! Get out and enjoy it while doing activities to better our city, our state, and our nation. And do not forget: Early Voting continues in the quest to elect a new mayor and Metro Council, and satellite polling locations open their doors on Thursday. Get details here. If you haven’t voted yet, do it! (If you can’t do early voting, make sure you cast your ballot on Runoff Election Day, Sept. 10.) If you have, encourage your progressive friends to do their part.

OK, on to the events!

Serious stuff is on the calendar this weekend. Make sure to get out this Saturday, Sunday, or Monday to do something to make the world better, to show compassion to others, to care for our planet, to remember we are all in this together. It’s the progressive way.

Watching reruns or reality television on the tube? Catch Project Runway on Hulu (no criticism, we love it and Tim Gunn too) and get out to build progressive community or involve yourself in activities to do some good. There are some choice options — including the start of Early Voting for the mayoral and Metro Council runoff election — on tap for Thursday and Friday. Make a difference! Make it work!

The National Partnership for Women and Families is fighting to ensure that US workers who put in overtime hours on the job get paid for them. The group, in the midst of a nationwide effort called “Women and Overtime Week of Action.” Partnership President Debra Ness explains the importance of the action: Right now, only hourly […]

Early this week, the focus is on education and organizing for peace among lefty groups in Music City. Take some time to get involved with one or more of these activities. It’s your opportunity do your part to promote progressive values and help make Nashville and the world a better place.
